Bomb Threats Sent to Tamil Nadu CM, Actor Ajith Kumar

On Sunday night, a series of bomb-threat emails were sent to the office of the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, targeting the residences of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and actor Ajith Kumar, among others. The threats prompted a full-scale response from the city’s Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), which carried out inspections at all identified locations. The police subsequently confirmed that no explosives were found and declared the threats as hoaxes.

Response and Investigation

Authorities deployed sniffer dogs, bomb-squad units, and personnel across multiple addresses in Chennai to ensure safety. High-profile figures including actors Aravind Swamy and Khushbu Sundar were reportedly among the other potential targets of the emailed threats. Although the emails reached the DGP’s office, the identity and origin of the sender remain undetermined. The incident joins a series of recent bogus threat calls and emails targeting Tamil film personalities.

Implications and Next Steps

While no physical danger materialised, the episodes are being treated as serious security breaches. Tamil Nadu police confirmed increased vigilance around VIP residences and offices. Investigators are analysing digital traces, email headers and phone logs to trace the author of the threats. Security officials say they will remain on alert until the case is resolved and reiterated that repeated hoax calls impose significant resources and disruptions.
