Bomb Threats Reported in Coimbatore Ahead of PM’s Visit

Authorities in Coimbatore received bomb threats via anonymous emails sent to several key locations, including the district collector’s office and Tiruppur district offices, just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit for a natural farming summit. The notifications claimed explosives had been planted, triggering searches by bomb disposal teams across the city.

Security Clampdown and Raids

In response, police deployed metal-detectors, sniffer dogs and bomb-squad teams at the identified sites and nearby areas. No explosives were discovered, leading officials to suspect the threats were hoaxes. Security officials said this is not the first occurrence of such alerts in the district, but its timing—coinciding with the Prime Minister’s trip—raised concern.

Implications for Visit and Investigation

With the Prime Minister scheduled to attend the event on 20 November 2025, city police increased security measures, including drone bans in certain areas, traffic restrictions and vehicle sweeps. Investigators are reviewing the emails’ origin and have asked cyber-crime units to trace the IP addresses. The swift response and heightened vigilance aim to ensure that the visit proceeds without disruption.
