BJP to Announce New UP President by December 16

The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to announce its new Uttar Pradesh state president by December 16 as part of its ongoing organisational reshuffle. The move comes as the party looks to strengthen its state unit ahead of future electoral battles, including the 2027 Assembly elections.

Election Process and Timeline

According to party sources, the formal election process will begin with the filing of nominations at the BJP’s state headquarters in Lucknow. If only one nomination is received, the candidate will be declared elected unopposed. In case of multiple nominations, a voting process involving members of the state council will be held. The final announcement is expected to be made on or before December 16.

Frontrunners for the Post

Several senior leaders are being considered for the role. Names doing the rounds include Union Minister of State BL Verma, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, and Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Dharmpal Singh. Party leaders have indicated that social and regional balance will be a key factor in the final decision, with a strong likelihood of an OBC leader being chosen.

Background of the Leadership Change

The post of Uttar Pradesh BJP president became vacant after Bhupendra Chaudhary stepped down following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party’s central leadership is overseeing the transition to ensure continuity and organisational stability in the state.
