BJP To Announce New Party President On January 20
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its schedule for choosing a new national party president. The party said nominations for the post will be filed on January 19, and the name of the new president will be officially declared on January 20.
Process Details
According to the organisational poll plan, potential candidates can submit their nomination papers on January 19. The party’s returning officer will scrutinise the nominations and there is a window for withdrawals on the same day. If more than one valid candidate emerges, polling will take place on January 20, followed by counting and declaration.
Likely Successor
Party insiders say Nitin Nabin, the BJP’s national working president, is widely expected to be elected unopposed as the next national president. Nabin was appointed working president in December 2025, a move seen as positioning him for the top role. He is likely to succeed J. P. Nadda, who has served as party chief since 2020 and will step down when the new president is announced.
Leadership Shift
The leadership change comes as the BJP prepares for key elections and seeks to strengthen its organisational leadership ahead of future political battles.
