BJP Leader Devender Singh Rana Passes Away at 59
Devender Singh Rana, a senior BJP leader and MLA from Jammu’s Nagrota constituency, passed away on Thursday at a private hospital in Faridabad, Haryana.
Rana, 59, was undergoing treatment at the facility. He is survived by his wife Gunjan Rana, daughters Devyani and Ketki, and son Adhiraj Singh. His passing has left a void in Jammu’s political landscape, especially among the Dogra community, for whom he was a prominent voice.
As news of his death spread, political leaders and hundreds of locals gathered at his Gandhinagar residence in Jammu. Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Rana’s elder brother, rushed to the family’s home to offer his condolences. Rana had recently been re-elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly from Nagrota, marking his second term as an MLA, and was recognized for his dedication to Jammu’s development and welfare.
Political Leaders Pay Tributes to Devender Singh Rana
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed shock and sorrow, stating, “In his passing, we have lost a patriotic and widely respected leader who was committed to the well-being of the people of J&K.”
Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary also extended condolences, noting the loss as particularly poignant on Diwali, adding, “Deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
PDP chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took to social media to express her sadness, while the Jammu and Kashmir BJP described his passing as a great loss for the party and for the people of the region. “His contribution and dedication to society will always be remembered,” the party stated.
Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir, too, expressed sorrow, reflecting on his experiences with Rana in political and social settings. “Rana was a great, supportive, and visionary leader, an entrepreneur whose business acumen created opportunities for many in J&K,” he shared.
Rana’s demise is seen as a significant loss for Jammu, with tributes pouring in from political allies and opponents alike, honoring his dedication to public service and contributions to Jammu’s socio-political landscape.
