BJP Calls Nationwide Protests Over Kharge’s Remarks

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced nationwide demonstrations on Monday, October 26, 2026, against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father. The controversy erupted during a public gathering in Patna on Sunday, prompting strong criticism from senior BJP leaders and demands for an unconditional apology.

BJP Announces Nationwide Protests Against Kharge

The BJP has instructed its state units to organise demonstrations at party headquarters across India, condemning Kharge’s remarks as offensive and inappropriate.

The controversy began when an audience member interrupted Kharge’s speech, declaring that Modi would not leave office. Kharge responded with the Hindi expression “Modi ka baap bhi jayega”, which BJP leaders interpreted as an insult directed at the Prime Minister’s deceased father.

The remarks were made during an event commemorating the birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Shri Krishna Sinha.

Amit Shah Condemns Mallikarjun Kharge’s Remarks

Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress president of violating established standards of political decency.

Shah alleged that Congress leaders had repeatedly resorted to personal attacks against Modi and his family instead of focusing on government policies.

BJP president Nitin Nabin and other senior leaders also criticised the statement, demanding that Kharge apologise.

Congress Defends Kharge Amid Political Controversy

Congress representatives defended Kharge, arguing that his response was a colloquial expression made after an interruption during his speech rather than a deliberate insult to Modi’s father.

The party also suggested that Kharge’s reference concerned the BJP’s ideological foundations.

The controversy comes amid opposition protests over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which Congress has criticised over alleged voting irregularities.
