Bhagwat Urges Erasing Caste Thinking to End Discrimination
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said that caste-based discrimination can end only when people remove caste from their thinking. He made the remarks during a public interaction, stressing that social change must begin at the level of individual mindset.
Caste as a Social Practice
Bhagwat said caste was originally linked to occupation and social responsibility but later hardened into rigid divisions that led to discrimination. He argued that continuing to identify people primarily by caste sustains inequality and social conflict.
Call for Social Transformation
The RSS chief said that if society genuinely stops practising caste discrimination in daily life, its effects could disappear within a decade. He emphasised that laws alone cannot end discrimination unless supported by a broader change in social attitudes.
Broader Message on Unity
Bhagwat linked the issue of caste to national unity and social harmony, saying India’s progress depends on overcoming divisions within society. He called for collective effort to build a more inclusive social order based on equality and shared values.
