Bengaluru To Face 60-Hour Water Shutdown From Sept 15

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has announced a 60-hour water supply cut across Bengaluru from September 15 to 17, 2025. The disruption will begin at 1:00 AM on September 15 in areas served by Cauvery Stage V. Areas under Cauvery Stages I to IV will also be affected by the shutdown from 6:00 AM on September 16 until 6:00 AM on September 17.

Reason For Shutdown

The shutdown is due to emergency maintenance work on key pumping stations and major pipelines under the Cauvery Water Supply Project. The work is intended to ensure sustainable operations and prevent future breakdowns.

Impact On Supply

All locations in Bengaluru that depend on Cauvery water will receive no water during the specified shutdown periods. Residents are urged to store sufficient water beforehand to manage the disruption.

Water Demand And Infrastructure

Currently, the first four stages of the Cauvery project supply about 1,460 million litres per day (MLD). With the addition of Stage V (which adds around 750 MLD), both supply capacity and electricity costs are expected to rise significantly. The emergency work focuses on maintaining treatment plants, pumping stations, and pipelines.
