BCCI Slams Naqvi For Trophy Walk-Off Drama

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sharply criticized Mohsin Naqvi after he reportedly left with the Asia Cup trophy following India’s win. According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, the gesture was “unprecedented” and “unsportsmanlike.” He said India refused to collect the trophy from Naqvi, stating: “We cannot accept a trophy from a person who represents a country at odds with ours.”

Trophy Presentation Controversy

India defeated Pakistan in the final and were due to receive the trophy from Naqvi, who is also ACC President and PCB Chairman. The presentation was delayed for over an hour before organizers announced that India would not take the trophy from him. During that break, Naqvi was seen leaving with the trophy and medals, prompting outrage from BCCI. India accepted individual awards but declined to receive the team prize directly from him.

BCCI To File Formal Protest

Saikia said BCCI will file a formal protest at the upcoming ICC meeting. Indian players and fans expressed dismay at the turn of events. The controversy has overshadowed India’s ninth Asia Cup title — won through clutch performances by Tilak Varma and Kuldeep Yadav — and drawn attention to how politics and sport are intertwined in this high-stakes rivalry.
