The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly exploring inclusion of the Bronco Test in its fitness evaluation regime. The test is a high-intensity shuttle-run assessing endurance and cardiovascular fitness, adding to existing metrics like the Yo-Yo Test and 2 km run.
AB De Villiers Describes Test As Grueling
Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers, who has experience with the test since age 16 in his homeland, described it as “one of the worst you can do.” He recalled performing it during winter in high-altitude conditions at venues like SuperSport Park, where “those lungs would burn”—highlighting the extreme physical strain involved.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin voiced concerns about sudden fitness regime changes, warning they could lead to injuries and stressing the need for continuity. He suggested a smoother handover between training regimes to avoid disruption.
