BCCI Begins Search for New Jersey Sponsor After Dream11 Exit
Fantasy sports platform Dream11 has ended its ₹358-crore jersey sponsorship deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The decision comes after the new Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act banned real-money fantasy gaming and related advertising, making the deal unsustainable.
Exit Clause Protects Dream11
Dream11 will not face penalties for terminating the contract early. The agreement included a clause that waived liability if a change in law directly impacted the company’s business operations.
BCCI Moves Quickly for Replacement
With the Asia Cup approaching, BCCI has already started the search for a new sponsor. Officials confirmed that fresh tenders will be floated soon. Companies like Toyota and a fintech firm are reportedly exploring the opportunity, but no final decision has been made.
Wider Financial Impact
The loss of Dream11 as a sponsor leaves a significant gap in BCCI’s sponsorship revenue. While the board is confident of securing a replacement quickly, the sudden exit highlights the risks of depending on companies operating in regulated sectors.
