BCCI Announces ₹51 Crore Reward After Women’s World Cup Win

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team following their victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The prize will be distributed among players, coaches, selectors and support staff in recognition of their historic achievement.

India’s Historic Victory

India clinched their maiden Women’s World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final held at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This win marked a significant milestone for Indian women’s cricket, with the team showing exceptional consistency throughout the tournament. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had already set the tournament’s official winner’s purse at USD 4.48 million (approximately ₹42 crore), while the BCCI’s separate ₹51 crore reward comes entirely from its own resources.

Recognition And Symbolism

The announcement underscores the BCCI’s growing commitment to women’s cricket and is seen as a strong message of encouragement for aspiring cricketers across the country. However, several analysts have pointed out that the women’s reward remains lower than the ₹125 crore given to the men’s team after the 2024 T20 World Cup win, sparking debate on pay equity in Indian cricket.

What Comes Next

The distribution of the ₹51 crore reward will follow BCCI’s internal guidelines, covering both on-field and support staff. The governing body is also expected to increase focus on grassroots development, infrastructure upgrades, and expanded domestic tournaments for women’s cricket. The reward not only celebrates India’s triumph but also represents a crucial step toward greater parity and visibility for women athletes.
