Bangladesh Promises Hasina Full Security On Hasina’s Return

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s government has said former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be provided full security if she returns to the country, while stressing that she will have to face the judicial process and accept the courts’ decisions.

Sheikh Hasina Assured Full Security

Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman said Hasina would receive full security upon returning to Bangladesh.

He added that her legal and constitutional rights would be protected while she faces proceedings against her. The government maintained that the final outcome of the cases involving Hasina would be determined by the courts.

Hasina Plans Bangladesh Return

Hasina has indicated that she intends to return to Bangladesh by December 2026. During a recent appearance from New Delhi, she said she was prepared to face arrest and other consequences after returning home.

The former Prime Minister has been living in India since leaving Bangladesh in August 2024 following the mass uprising that ended her government.

She has since faced multiple legal proceedings in Bangladesh, including cases connected with the violence surrounding the 2024 unrest.

Bangladesh Government Backs Judicial Process

The assurance comes amid continuing political tensions surrounding Hasina’s presence in India and her activities while abroad.

The Bangladesh government has maintained that people facing criminal allegations should be provided security and access to their constitutional rights while also being required to face the country’s legal system.

A similar position has also been expressed regarding former Awami League MP and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, who has indicated willingness to return if his safety is guaranteed.
