Bangladesh President Accuses Yunus Of Ouster Plot

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin has alleged that former interim leader Muhammad Yunus made repeated attempts to remove him from office during the 18-month transitional government period that ended earlier this month. The remarks come days after the Bangladesh Nationalist Party formed a new government following national elections.

Bangladesh President Alleges Yunus Ouster Attempts

In a recent interview, President Shahabuddin claimed that during the interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus, efforts were made to sideline him and create circumstances that could have led to his removal. He said key constitutional procedures were bypassed and that he was not consulted on several major decisions taken during the transitional period.

The President further alleged that certain foreign visits proposed by him were blocked and that important policy matters were handled without proper coordination with the presidency. He described the period as one marked by institutional strain and constitutional tension.

BNP Government And Constitutional Continuity

Shahabuddin stated that leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party supported maintaining constitutional order during the political uncertainty. He referred to cooperation from the incoming leadership to ensure there was no constitutional vacuum during the transition from the interim government to the elected administration.

The interim government had assumed charge amid political unrest and oversaw governance until parliamentary elections were conducted. The BNP’s victory marked the end of that transitional arrangement.

Political Fallout After Interim Rule

The allegations have added to debate over the functioning of the interim administration and the scope of its authority. The President indicated that several ordinances were issued during the period and claimed communication channels between the presidency and the interim executive were restricted at times.

There has been no official response from Muhammad Yunus regarding the claims. The issue is expected to remain part of the political discourse as the new government consolidates its position.
