Bangladesh Gets Diesel From India Pipeline
Bangladesh has started receiving diesel from India through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, with the latest consignment arriving as Dhaka works to stabilise fuel availability amid wider energy-market disruptions. The cross-border supply is being treated as part of regular bilateral energy trade even as regional supply concerns remain elevated.
India Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline Diesel Supply
About 5,000 metric tonnes of diesel are being supplied from India to Bangladesh through the Friendship Pipeline in the latest transfer. Officials said pumping began from Numaligarh Refinery Limited in Assam and the fuel is expected to reach the Parbatipur depot in Dinajpur after roughly 44 hours. The pipeline has emerged as an important route for cross-border fuel movement between the two countries.
Bangladesh Fuel Supply Measures Amid Energy Stress
The fresh diesel inflow comes at a time when Bangladesh has been under pressure to secure stable fuel reserves. Recent reports have pointed to fuel rationing, panic buying and broader stress in the country’s energy system due to regional disruptions affecting imports and supply chains. Against that backdrop, the pipeline delivery from India has added immediate support to Bangladesh’s diesel stocks.
India Bangladesh Energy Trade Continues
Official-source-based reporting has described the supply as part of ongoing energy cooperation rather than an emergency one-off shipment. Bangladesh had already approved imports of 1.8 lakh tonnes of diesel from India for 2026 through the same pipeline arrangement, highlighting the long-term role of the route in bilateral energy trade. Reports also indicate Dhaka has sought additional supplies from India as it manages fuel security challenges.
