Baloch Separatists Renew Independence Demand
Baloch separatist activist Mir Yar Baloch has renewed his call for international recognition of an independent Balochistan and urged supporters to observe August 11 as Baloch Independence Day.

Baloch appealed to the international community, including India, to recognise Balochistan as a sovereign country separate from Pakistan. He has previously claimed that the region is under Pakistani occupation and sought diplomatic support for the separatist movement.
The declaration is a unilateral claim by an activist and does not represent a legally recognised separation from Pakistan. Balochistan remains constitutionally and internationally recognised as a Pakistani province. No country or major international organisation has formally recognised an independent Baloch state.
August 11 Marks Kalat Declaration
Baloch nationalists associate August 11 with the princely state of Kalat’s declaration of independence in 1947, shortly before the creation of Pakistan. Kalat acceded to Pakistan in March 1948, although separatist groups maintain that the agreement was secured under military and political pressure.
Pakistan considers the accession legal and rejects nationalist claims that Balochistan was forcibly annexed. Its officially recognised Independence Day, including in Balochistan province, remains August 14.
Several Baloch nationalist organisations observe August 11 as Independence Day or “Pledge Renewal Day” to reaffirm their separatist campaign.
Balochistan Conflict Remains Unresolved
Balochistan has faced a decades-long separatist insurgency driven by disputes over political representation, natural resources and regional development. Activists accuse Pakistani authorities of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and suppressing political dissent.
Pakistan rejects allegations of systematic abuse and says armed separatist groups have attacked civilians, security personnel and infrastructure. The Balochistan Liberation Army, one of the region’s most prominent armed groups, is designated as a terrorist organisation by several countries.
India has not officially recognised the separatists’ independence claim.
