Azerbaijan Resumes Oil Exports to India After 10-Month Pause

India has begun receiving crude oil shipments from Azerbaijan again after a break of about 10 months. In August 2025, Azerbaijan exported 1,747.07 tonnes of crude oil to India, worth around US$781,520. This marks a small resumption of trade.

Why the Hiatus

The suspension in exports began in October 2024, largely due to a disagreement over pricing. Recent data shows that this issue has now been resolved, enabling Azerbaijan to start sending crude oil again.

Scale and Comparison

The latest export volume is far lower compared to the same month last year—it is nearly 589 times less in volume and about 827 times less in value than exports during August 2024. What was once a substantial part of trade between the two countries has now scaled back significantly.

Broader Trade Figures

In the first eight months of 2025, Azerbaijan exported more than 15.924 million tonnes of crude oil and related products. For the same period, foreign trade (exports + imports) stood at around US$32.118 billion, with about US$17.065 billion in exports and US$15.053 billion in imports. Crude oil exports to India currently make up only 0.01% of Azerbaijan’s total oil exports.
