Australia Beat India in Gill’s First ODI as Captain

Australia defeated India by seven wickets in the first One-Day International of the series played in Perth. The Indian team, led by new captain Shubman Gill, was restricted to 136/9 in a rain-curtailed match reduced to 26 overs per side. Australia comfortably chased down the revised target of 131 runs with more than four overs remaining.

India’s Batting Struggles

India’s batting order collapsed early despite the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the ODI squad. Kohli was dismissed for a duck, while Rohit also failed to make an impact. The low total left India’s bowlers with little margin, and they could not stop Australia’s steady chase.

Australia’s Strong Chase

Australia’s innings was anchored by Mitchell Marsh, who remained unbeaten on 46, while Josh Philippe added 37 runs. Their partnership ensured that India’s modest score was chased down without much difficulty.

Gill’s Tough Start as Skipper

This was Shubman Gill’s first match as full-time ODI captain after taking over from Rohit Sharma. The defeat marked a difficult start to his leadership role as Australia took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
