Arunachal Gorge Accident Leaves Several Feared Dead

A major accident occurred on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam road in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district when a truck carrying labourers fell into a deep gorge near the India China border. The incident took place on December 8 and came to notice only after the lone survivor managed to reach a nearby camp and alert authorities two days later.

Casualties Reported, Search Continues

The truck was reportedly carrying 21 labourers, most of whom were from Assam’s Tinsukia district. Initial assessments indicate that at least 17 to 18 people are feared dead, while a few others remain untraceable due to the steep terrain and lack of connectivity. Rescue operations are being carried out by teams from the Army, ITBP, NDRF, GREF, local police and district officials. The depth of the gorge and difficult mountain conditions are slowing down recovery efforts.

Survivor’s Account Helps Locate Site

The sole survivor has been shifted to medical care and has provided critical details about the accident. Officials are working to verify the number of victims and coordinate with authorities in Assam to begin the process of identifying the deceased. Full confirmation of casualties is expected after the rescue teams reach deeper sections of the gorge.
