Army Chief Says Forces Given Free Hand After Pahalgam Attack

General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, revealed that just a day after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared “enough is enough.” The next day, the armed forces were given a “free hand” to plan and respond, bringing clarity, confidence, and strong political backing to military operations.

How Operation Sindoor Was Planned and Launched

During the meeting held on April 23, the three service chiefs—Army, Navy, and Air Force—were empowered to decide on the action. Two days later, on April 25, they finalized the plan at the Northern Command, selecting seven high-value targets out of nine for precise strikes. This coordinated military action, known as Operation Sindoor, was carried out to neutralize terrorist infrastructure linked to the Pahalgam attack.

Why It Matters

This high-level coordination between political leaders and the military was a defining moment for India’s response mechanism. It demonstrated trust in the armed forces’ judgment and highlighted India’s resolve to stand firm against terrorism. The swift launch of Operation Sindoor underlined how political clarity and military readiness can combine to protect national security.
