Arab-Islamic Summit Backs Qatar After Israeli Strike

Leaders from Arab and Islamic nations gathered in Doha to show support for Qatar following the Israeli airstrike on 9 September 2025. The attack killed five Hamas operatives and one Qatari security officer.

Condemnation of the Attack

A draft resolution at the summit condemned the Israeli strike as destabilizing to the region. While it did not call for retaliation, it emphasized that the use of force to alter regional dynamics was unacceptable.

Qatar’s Mediation Role

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani reiterated that Doha remains committed to mediating in the Gaza conflict. He stressed that the attack would not deter Qatar from continuing its diplomatic role with Egypt, the U.S., and other stakeholders.

Regional Responses

The United Arab Emirates and other Gulf states condemned the airstrike and rejected calls for Qatar to act against Hamas leaders. Israel has insisted that Qatar expel or prosecute Hamas figures, calling it essential for improving ties and advancing hostage-release negotiations.
