Apple Watch Introduces Hypertension Alerts In India

Apple has rolled out a new feature for users in India that can alert them when data patterns suggest a higher risk of hypertension. The feature is part of the latest watchOS update and is available on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, as well as Apple Watch Ultra 2 models. India is among the first markets to receive the rollout.

How The Alerts Work

The system does not measure blood pressure directly. Instead, the watch analyses sensor data collected over several weeks to identify trends that may indicate elevated blood pressure. If the system detects consistent patterns, the user receives a notification advising them to check their blood pressure using medical equipment and consult a doctor if required. Apple clarified that the feature is meant to offer early warning, not a medical diagnosis.

Who Can Access It

The alerts are available only for adults above the age of 22. Users must meet certain technical requirements such as the latest software version, compatible iPhone support, and wrist detection enabled. Those who are already diagnosed with hypertension or are pregnant are advised that the notifications may not be accurate or necessary.

Focus On Health Awareness

Hypertension is one of the most common health risks worldwide and is often undetected until serious complications develop. The Apple Watch feature aims to promote awareness and timely medical checks. Health experts recommend that users still rely on proper devices to measure blood pressure, and follow medical advice for treatment and monitoring.
