Apple Cuts iPhone Air Production
Apple has sharply reduced production of its latest model, the iPhone Air, after global demand fell well below expectations. Industry reports suggest that starting November, orders may fall to under 10% of September’s initial volume.
Weak Demand Hits New Model
Launched in September 2025 as part of the iPhone 17 lineup, the iPhone Air was designed as Apple’s thinnest smartphone yet. However, sales have been sluggish, with most customers opting for the standard iPhone 17 or the Pro model. Investor surveys have indicated “virtually no demand” for the Air variant.
Shift in Apple’s Strategy
Despite the setback, Apple’s overall iPhone production target remains between 85 and 90 million units for the year. The company appears to be shifting resources toward its stronger-selling flagship models while scaling back experimental designs like the Air.
Market Implications
While Apple has not issued an official statement on the cut, analysts believe the move signals changing consumer preferences, with buyers favouring performance and reliability over radical design changes. This adjustment could also impact suppliers linked to iPhone Air components.
