Telegram Removed From Apple App Store
Apple temporarily withdrew Telegram after an internal review found content that violated its rules prohibiting child sexual abuse material. The action prevented new downloads of the messaging application through the App Store during the brief suspension.
The company did not disclose where the material appeared within Telegram or how it was initially detected. Users who had already installed the application were not reported to have lost access to the service while the review was underway.
Apple Restores Telegram After Action
Telegram returned to the App Store after its developers promptly deleted the offending content and banned the user who had posted it. Apple confirmed that the corrective action allowed the application to be reinstated.
Telegram later acknowledged the restoration through a short social media message but did not provide further details about the violation, the suspended account or additional safeguards introduced following the incident.
App Store Content Rules Enforced
Apple’s App Review Guidelines prohibit applications from hosting or facilitating illegal, pornographic or otherwise harmful material. Apps that depend on user-generated content are expected to maintain effective moderation systems and respond quickly when violations are identified.
The incident highlights the enforcement pressure facing large messaging platforms, where private conversations, public channels and large groups can make harmful-content detection more difficult. Telegram has previously faced regulatory scrutiny in several countries over its handling of illegal and extremist material.
Apple and Telegram had not released additional information about the duration of the removal or whether the incident would lead to closer monitoring of the application.
