Anti-Terror Operation in Kulgam Enters Fourth Day

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir continued their anti-terror operation in Kulgam district for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, as the joint search and cordon operation showed no signs of winding down. The encounter, which began on Thursday, has already resulted in the elimination of two terrorists linked to proscribed outfits, with security forces still on high alert in the region.

Gunbattle in Forest Area

The ongoing encounter is taking place in the remote Modergam forest area of Kulgam, which has proven to be a challenging terrain for the operation. Heavy exchange of fire was reported in the early hours of Sunday. Officials confirmed that two terrorists had been killed in the initial phase of the operation, and their identities were being verified. The operation is being carried out by a joint team of the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Drone Surveillance and Reinforcements

To prevent any escape from the densely forested region, the forces have deployed drone surveillance and night vision equipment. Sniffer dogs and reinforcements were also brought in on Saturday, indicating the possibility of more militants hiding in the area. Security sources suspect at least one or two terrorists may still be present and are engaging the forces sporadically.

Civilian Safety a Priority

Authorities have confirmed that no civilian casualties have occurred so far. Local residents in nearby villages have been advised to remain indoors. The district administration has suspended mobile internet services in parts of Kulgam as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of rumours or militant communication.

The operation is part of a larger counterterrorism push in South Kashmir, where increased movement of terrorist elements has been reported in recent weeks. Officials stated that the area is being thoroughly searched and that the operation will continue until it is cleared of all threats.
