Annamalai Unhappy With AIADMK Seat Allocation
Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is reportedly unhappy with the constituencies allocated to his party by alliance partner AIADMK, as discontent grows within sections of the BJP over the final seat-sharing arrangement for the 2026 Assembly election. The unease has added a fresh layer of strain inside the NDA in Tamil Nadu even as the alliance moves into campaign mode.
Annamalai Unhappy Over AIADMK Seat Allocation
Reports said Annamalai was dissatisfied with the constituencies assigned to the BJP under the AIADMK-led alliance formula. The BJP has been allotted 27 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, while AIADMK is contesting the lion’s share. The disagreement appears to centre on both the number of seats and the nature of the constituencies offered to the BJP.
BJP Cadres Protest In Coimbatore
The unrest has not remained limited to internal discussions. In Coimbatore, BJP workers staged protests after AIADMK retained Kinathukadavu and the BJP was given only Coimbatore North in the region. Local cadres argued that the BJP had built a stronger base in several western belt constituencies and should have been allotted more electorally favourable seats.
Tamil Nadu NDA Faces Seat-Sharing Tension
The controversy has also fuelled speculation over whether Annamalai himself will contest the election. Some reports have suggested he may stay out of the race if no suitable constituency is allotted. Even so, BJP leaders in the state have publicly stressed alliance unity and said their larger goal remains defeating the ruling DMK. The episode, however, shows that seat-sharing tensions within the NDA have not fully disappeared despite the formal agreement.
