Google has claimed that Android users experience fewer scam calls and text messages than iPhone users. The company said its AI-driven protection features block more than 10 billion potential scam attempts every month, including calls and texts. The announcement forms part of Google’s broader effort to highlight Android’s built-in safety tools and machine-learning filters that reduce fraud exposure.
Survey and Security Insights
A Google-commissioned survey conducted by YouGov across the United States, India, and Brazil revealed that Android users were 58% more likely than iPhone users to report receiving no scam texts in a given week. Among Pixel phone users, the number rose sharply, with respondents 96% more likely than iPhone users to say they received no scam messages. iPhone users, by comparison, were 65% more likely to have received three or more scam texts within a week.
Role of AI-Driven Defences
Google attributed the difference to Android’s layered defence system — including spam filters in Google Messages, real-time call screening, and advanced scam detection. Independent analysts, however, cautioned that the study relies on self-reported data and internal telemetry, making direct comparison between Android and iOS challenging. They noted that while Android’s open system allows faster integration of new safety tools, both ecosystems remain vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated scams.
