Anbumani Ramadoss Seeks Relief for TN Workers Hit by Tariffs

PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss has urged both the Tamil Nadu and Central governments to intervene after the U.S. imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods. He warned that export-driven sectors in districts such as Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Vellore—particularly textiles, leather, and shrimp—are facing massive job losses that could lead to social and economic instability.

Call for Direct Relief to Workers

Ramadoss demanded a direct relief package of ₹5,000 per month for workers who lose employment due to the tariff shock. He emphasized that immediate support is essential to prevent families from sliding into poverty and to maintain stability in communities dependent on export income.

Support for Industry to Prevent Collapse

In addition to worker relief, he proposed industry-focused measures including loan moratoriums, interest waivers, and extended credit lines. He argued that protecting small and medium exporters from collapse is vital for sustaining long-term competitiveness in global markets. Ramadoss added that lessons from past economic crises prove that timely interventions can limit damage and restore resilience.
