Amit Shah Takes a Dig at Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray Over Maharashtra Poll Results

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a recent public address, took a sharp dig at Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray, referencing the BJP-led alliance’s decisive victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections held in November. Shah remarked that the people of Maharashtra have “shown them their place,” highlighting public discontent with their political strategies.

Shah criticized Sharad Pawar for what he described as a history of “betrayal politics,” dating back to 1978. He accused Pawar of setting a precedent for treachery in political alliances, which Shah claimed the electorate had now rejected. Similarly, he alleged that Uddhav Thackeray engaged in dynastic politics and betrayal, particularly targeting his actions during the Shiv Sena split, which voters, Shah said, refused to endorse.

The November elections saw the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secure a resounding victory, winning 233 of the 288 assembly seats. Within the coalition, the BJP claimed 132 seats, while allies Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) won 57 and 41 seats, respectively. In contrast, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), led by Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction, faced a crushing defeat, collectively winning only 46 seats.

Shah also pointed out that voters acknowledged Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction as the true bearer of Balasaheb Thackeray’s legacy and recognized Ajit Pawar’s group as the legitimate NCP. His remarks signal the BJP’s continued confidence ahead of upcoming political challenges, with Maharashtra’s evolving political dynamics expected to influence national strategies.
