Amit Shah Rules Out Talks, Urges Maoists to Surrender
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at the Bastar Dussehra in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, insisted that the government will not negotiate with Maoist groups. He called on them to surrender under the Centre’s rehabilitation scheme. He declared March 31, 2026, as a deadline to end left-wing extremism in the region.
No Dialogue, Just Surrender
Shah questioned what there was to discuss with insurgents, stating that the “point of talks” had passed. He emphasized that the government’s policy provides “lucrative” surrender and rehabilitation options to those willing to give up arms. He insisted that security operations will persist and that the state expects insurgents to rejoin normal life.
Tribal Ritual & Local Engagement
During his visit, Shah attended the traditional Muria Darbar, a tribal court ritual where local community leaders and priests present issues and grievances. He also addressed villagers and tribal communities, urging cooperation in transforming the region.
Political Reactions
The Congress party in Chhattisgarh challenged Shah’s remarks, posing eight questions about tribal rights, resource allocation, and alleged fake encounters. They demanded clarity on the government’s approach toward tribal welfare and developmental promises in Bastar.
