Amit Shah Pays Tribute to Pahalgam Attack Victims, Meets Survivors
In the aftermath of the horrifying terror attack in Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar to personally oversee the security response and meet with survivors and the families of those who lost their lives. The attack, carried out by militants affiliated with The Resistance Front, claimed 26 lives and left over 20 others injured.
Amit Shah’s Visit and Tribute
Amit Shah began his visit by paying floral tributes at a solemn ceremony honoring the victims of the massacre. The event was attended by top officials including Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Shah offered his condolences to the bereaved families and met with injured survivors at local hospitals, where he assured them of the government’s unwavering commitment to bringing the attackers and their handlers to justice.
He reiterated that the Indian government will not tolerate such barbaric violence and promised that those behind the act would face the harshest possible punishment. Shah also lauded the swift response of security personnel and medical teams in handling the crisis.
Government Response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier cut short his international visit and immediately returned to Delhi to convene a high-level emergency meeting. The Prime Minister condemned the killings as a “cowardly act of terror” and vowed a crushing response. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also returned from her overseas engagements to support the national response.
Security forces have since intensified operations across South Kashmir. Surveillance and intelligence activities have been expanded, and counterterror teams are on the ground in search of the remaining suspects.
International Condemnation
The massacre has sparked strong condemnation globally. U.S. President Donald Trump, in a phone call with Prime Minister Modi, extended America’s full support in the fight against terrorism. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres denounced the attack, stressing that civilians must never be targeted. Countries including Israel, Russia, Italy, and members of the European Union have expressed their solidarity with India during this tragic time.
As investigations continue, national and international focus remains on dismantling the terror infrastructure behind the attack and ensuring no such violence disrupts the peace in the region again.
