Amit Shah Launches Bharat Taxi Cooperative

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the launch of Bharat Taxi, described as India’s first cooperative based taxi service aimed at supporting drivers through a shared ownership and earnings model.

Bharat Taxi Cooperative Service

Amit Shah said the platform will operate on a cooperative structure where drivers are members rather than contractors. The service is intended to reduce intermediary commissions and allow drivers to retain a larger share of fares.

Authorities indicated the model seeks to create a transparent pricing system and provide social security benefits to participating drivers.

Driver Income and Welfare Model

Under the proposed structure, drivers will receive earnings directly through the cooperative framework. Officials stated the initiative aims to offer insurance coverage, financial inclusion and stable income opportunities.

The project is expected to integrate digital booking systems while maintaining cooperative ownership principles.

India Transport Platform Initiative

The launch reflects broader efforts to develop alternative mobility platforms and expand participation in the gig economy through collective ownership models. Policymakers said the service may be expanded across multiple cities based on operational rollout.
