Amit Shah Confronts Congress Over Pahalgam Attack

Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticized former Home Minister P. Chidambaram during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor. Shah objected to Chidambaram’s remarks suggesting that the terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack may have been homegrown. Shah said such statements unfairly deflect blame from Pakistan and undermine the sacrifices made by Indian security forces.

Proof Presented Against Pakistan-Based Terrorists

Amit Shah informed the House that three terrorists linked to the Pahalgam massacre were neutralized in a follow-up operation. He said that Pakistani voter ID cards, Pakistan-made chocolates, and arms were recovered from the scene. Ballistics reports confirmed that the rifles used in the Pahalgam attack matched those seized in the encounter. Shah stressed that the evidence clearly established the attackers’ origin and ideological affiliations with Pakistan-based groups.

Congress Accused of Weakening Counter-Terrorism Response

Shah further accused the Congress party of consistently weakening India’s fight against terrorism. He criticized Congress for opposing tough anti-terror laws in the past and claimed that their leadership lacked the resolve to stand firmly against Pakistan-backed threats. He said such political posturing harms national morale and gives Pakistan a free hand.

Operation Sindoor and Strategic Clarity

The debate came amid continuing discussion over Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 Indian civilians. India responded with a cross-border military operation that lasted nearly a week before a ceasefire took effect. Shah reiterated that the Indian government acted based on clear intelligence and military priorities, and that no foreign influence dictated its course of action.

Importance of the Exchange

The confrontation between Shah and Chidambaram in Parliament underscored the sharp divide between the ruling government and the opposition on national security. It also highlighted the Modi government’s efforts to showcase hard evidence of cross-border terrorism and defend its handling of the crisis.
