Akash Deep Out, Pant to Keep in Manchester Test

Ahead of the crucial fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, India has received two major setbacks. Pacer Akash Deep has been ruled out of the game due to a groin injury, confirmed by captain Shubman Gill. Fellow seamer Arshdeep Singh is also unavailable following a thumb injury sustained in a net session.

Anshul Kamboj Likely to Debut

With both Deep and Arshdeep sidelined, India may introduce 24-year-old fast bowler Anshul Kamboj, who has been added to the squad as cover. Gill hinted that it will be a toss-up between Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna for the final spot in the playing XI. Kamboj impressed during India A trials and is expected to challenge for a berth.

Rishabh Pant Returns as Wicketkeeper

There is welcome news for India as Rishabh Pant has made a strong recovery from a finger injury. He is now confirmed to resume wicketkeeping duties in Manchester. With Pant back, Dhruv Jurel, who kept in London, is likely to make way. Pant also recently participated in fielding drills during practice sessions.

Nitish Kumar Reddy Ruled Out for Series

Adding to India’s woes, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the remaining Tests after sustaining a knee injury. He returned home to begin treatment. This sidelining leaves India thinner in all-round options for the remainder of the series.

Series Hangs in Balance

India currently trails 1–2 in the five-match series. The team is now set to field:

  • Shubman Gill (Captain)
  • Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper)
  • Pacer duo Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj
  • Possible inclusion of Anshul Kamboj or Prasidh Krishna

India must adapt to this injury-hit lineup and find ways to take 20 wickets on a welcoming Manchester surface, as Gill stressed during the pre-match media briefing.
