Ajit Doval Told US India Won’t Be Pressured – Report
India conveyed to the United States that its strategic decisions would not be influenced by political pressure, according to a report describing discussions between National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and US Senator Marco Rubio during a diplomatic exchange.
Ajit Doval Rubio Meeting
During the interaction, Ajit Doval reportedly told Rubio that India follows an independent foreign policy based on national interest and would not alter positions due to leadership changes in Washington. The conversation took place amid disagreements over trade and geopolitical alignments.
Officials emphasised that India maintains continuity in strategic policy regardless of the administration in power in partner countries.
India US Relations Under Trump
The report stated the Indian government was prepared to continue engagement while waiting for policy clarity during Donald Trump’s presidency. Differences had emerged over tariffs, defence cooperation expectations and broader global positioning, but diplomatic channels remained active.
India conveyed that bilateral ties should be guided by long term partnership rather than short term political pressure, while both sides continued dialogue on trade and security issues.
Strategic Autonomy Foreign Policy
India’s position reflects its long standing approach of strategic autonomy, where decisions are based on economic and security priorities rather than bloc alignment. New Delhi has historically balanced relations with multiple major powers while maintaining policy independence.
The exchange highlighted ongoing negotiations between the two countries on trade, defence and regional security cooperation.
