Air India Flight Returns To Mumbai Safely
The flight, AI2812, was operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru when it had to turn back soon after departure. The aircraft involved was an Airbus A320. According to the report, the pilots declared a PAN PAN, which is used to indicate an urgent situation that is serious but not immediately life-threatening, in order to secure priority handling for the return.
Suspected Engine Issue After Take-Off
The return was triggered by a suspected technical issue linked to one of the aircraft’s engines. Some passengers reportedly saw sparks from the engine during take-off and also heard an unusual sound. Air India said the flight returned to Mumbai as a precaution and that the aircraft landed safely in line with standard operating procedures.
Alternative Aircraft Arranged For Passengers
After the flight returned, Air India said its Mumbai airport team provided immediate assistance to passengers. The airline also arranged an alternative aircraft to operate the Mumbai-Bengaluru service. The aircraft that returned is now undergoing detailed technical checks as part of the airline’s standard safety process.
