AIADMK Rift Deepens as Sengottaiyan Removed from Posts
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has removed senior leader K. A. Sengottaiyan from key positions in the party, including the roles of Organising Secretary and district unit secretary for Erode Suburban West. This action comes a day after Sengottaiyan issued a 10-day ultimatum demanding the reinstatement of expelled leaders into the party.
Supporters Also Targeted
Following the removal of Sengottaiyan, several of his supporters who met with him ahead of the ultimatum were also stripped of their party duties. The move underscores the widening rift within AIADMK’s leadership.
Reactions and Calls for Unity
Sengottaiyan described his removal as acceptable, asserting that his aim was to promote party unity and ensure its return to power. Leaders like O. Panneerselvam and V. K. Sasikala, along with BJP state officials, expressed support for his call to reunify the party. Some political commentators warned about the impact of outside influence on AIADMK’s internal balance.
