AI Hiring Rises 16% In India IT Sector

AI hiring in India’s IT sector continued to grow in June even as overall technology recruitment declined, showing a clear shift in demand towards specialised artificial intelligence roles.

AI Hiring In India IT Sector Rises

Hiring for artificial intelligence roles in India’s IT sector rose 16 percent year-on-year in June, according to Naukri’s monthly JobSpeak report. The increase came even as overall IT sector hiring declined 3 percent during the same period.

The report was based on job listings from more than 1.5 lakh companies on the Naukri platform. It indicates that technology firms are still recruiting selectively, with a sharper focus on AI skills and specialised digital capabilities.

Overall Tech Jobs Decline In June

India’s IT services sector has been facing pressure from slower client spending, global uncertainty and the growing use of AI-led automation. These factors have affected traditional technology hiring, especially in areas linked to routine software services.

The divergence between rising AI hiring and falling overall IT recruitment shows a shift in workforce planning. Companies appear to be investing more in roles linked to machine learning, generative AI, data science and AI implementation.

AI And Machine Learning Jobs Grow

Across 14 sectors, AI and machine learning jobs increased 25 percent in June. The insurance and consumer goods sectors recorded strong hiring growth during the period, showing that AI demand is expanding beyond core technology companies.

The trend also comes at a time when major IT firms are reworking their staffing models. Tata Consultancy Services has indicated that hiring may slow as companies integrate more AI agents into their operations.

The latest data points to a changing employment landscape where broad-based IT hiring remains cautious, but demand for AI-ready talent continues to strengthen.
