Ahmedabad Confirmed Host Of 2030 Commonwealth Games

Ahmedabad has been officially selected to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, following a vote at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow. All 74 participating nations approved India’s bid, marking a major milestone for the country’s global sporting profile.

Historic Centenary Edition

The 2030 Games will be the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games, exactly 100 years after the first event held in 1930. This will be India’s second time hosting the Games, the first being the 2010 edition in New Delhi.

Venues And Sports Planned

The event is expected to feature 15 to 17 sporting disciplines, including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, boxing, weightlifting, table tennis and others. Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, along with multiple upgraded venues, will be central to the Games’ infrastructure and operations.

Significance For Indian Sports

Officials described the decision as a landmark achievement that demonstrates India’s ability to organise mega global sports events. Hosting the Games is expected to boost India’s long-term aspirations, including a potential bid for the Summer Olympics in the 2030s or 2040s.
