Afghanistan spinners Breach ICC Code after Asia Cup Loss
Afghan spinners Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have been officially reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during their Asia Cup match versus Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. They committed Level 1 offences, the ICC confirmed.
Offence Details
Noor Ahmad was found guilty under Article 2.8 for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman was charged under Article 2.2 for abusing cricket equipment — he broke the stumps with his towel during the match.
Acceptance of Charges
Both players accepted the charges and the sanctions proposed by the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Because this is their first offence within a 24-month period, each received a reprimand and one demerit point on their disciplinary records.
Match Outcome
On the same day, Sri Lanka secured a six-wicket win to stay unbeaten in the Asia Cup. Afghanistan’s defeat marked their second consecutive loss and eliminated them from the tournament.
