Afghanistan Rejects Pakistan’s India-Proxy Allegations

Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, Afghanistan’s defence minister, has rejected Pakistan’s allegations that India is involved in proxy activities against Islamabad. Mujahid described the claims as “unfounded, illogical and unacceptable,” emphasising that Afghanistan maintains independent relations and will deepen cooperation with India based solely on its national interests.

Independent Foreign Policy Emphasised

Mujahid asserted that Afghanistan’s foreign affairs are conducted autonomously. He underscored that Kabul will strengthen ties with India in areas such as trade, humanitarian assistance and regional stability, dismissing Islamabad’s narrative that frames the country as a battleground for third-party influence.

Context of Border Tensions

The remarks come amid a spike in deadly clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan along their shared border. Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of allowing its soil to be used by militants — claims Kabul denies. Analysts view the Indian engagement announced by Afghanistan as part of its broader strategy to assert autonomy and balance regional ties.
