The earthquake was reported at a magnitude of 5.8 to 5.9 by different monitoring agencies and media reports, with the epicentre located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The tremors were felt in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, where residents stepped out of homes and offices as a precaution after the shaking lasted for a few seconds.

Earthquake Epicentre In Afghanistan Hindu Kush Region

The Hindu Kush belt is one of the most seismically active regions in the world and frequently experiences deep earthquakes. Reports said this quake struck at a considerable depth, which helped reduce surface damage in many areas even though the tremors travelled across a wide region. Deep-focus earthquakes in Afghanistan are often felt far beyond the epicentre, including in Pakistan and northern India.

No Immediate Damage Reported In JK

Officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage in Jammu and Kashmir after the tremors. Similar updates also came from other affected areas in north India, where the shaking triggered concern but did not appear to cause major disruption. Authorities are expected to continue reviewing the impact as more field inputs come in.

The quake once again highlighted how seismic activity in Afghanistan can be felt across large parts of the region. Residents in north India were reminded of the area’s vulnerability to cross-border earthquake shocks, especially from the Hindu Kush zone.
