First Batch Of Prahar LMGs Delivered To Army
The first consignment of 2,000 Prahar light machine guns was formally handed over to the Indian Army at Adani Defence’s Small Arms Complex near Gwalior. The weapon is a 7.62 mm calibre light machine gun and forms part of a larger procurement programme aimed at strengthening infantry capability.
Delivery Made Ahead Of Schedule
Company officials said the delivery has been completed 11 months ahead of schedule. According to the company, the full contract process took around six years from bid submission to first delivery. Officials also said the complete order will be supplied over the next three years, indicating that production will continue in phases.
Make In India Push Gets Defence Boost
The delivery is also being highlighted as a success for indigenous defence manufacturing. A company spokesperson said the total order for Prahar light machine guns stands at around 40,000 units. Defence officials present at the ceremony described the early delivery as a sign that Indian industry is increasingly capable of turning contracts into operational supplies within tighter timelines.
