Bollywood actor and politician Govinda has spoken out for the first time since accidentally shooting himself in the leg earlier this week.
After being discharged from a Mumbai hospital on Friday, the actor addressed the media, clarifying that the incident was purely accidental and should not be linked to any other circumstances.
Greeting the media with folded hands as he left the hospital in a wheelchair, Govinda thanked the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for their prompt care during his recovery. The actor was visibly relieved, sporting a cast on his left leg. “I want to thank everyone, including all the politicians, artists, and fans who called and visited me during this critical time. I have no words to express my gratitude,” Govinda said, expressing appreciation for the support he received from well-wishers.
Govinda shared details of the mishap, which took place early Tuesday morning. “It was around 4:45 to 5:00 a.m. when I was getting ready to leave for a show in Kolkata. The revolver accidentally fell and misfired. Initially, I couldn’t believe what had happened. It was a deep wound, and I thought, ‘What just occurred?’” he recalled.
Describing the moment of the accident, the actor added, “The gun fell and suddenly fired. I felt a jhatka (shock), and when I looked down, there was a fountain of blood. I was stunned at how it all unfolded.”
Govinda urged everyone not to read too much into the incident and reiterated that it was a complete accident. “Please do not misunderstand it in any way,” he stated firmly. The actor emphasized that there was no other cause or intention behind the mishap.
Govinda was rushed to a local hospital shortly after the incident and underwent treatment for the injury. After a successful recovery, he has been advised to rest and refrain from strenuous activities for a few weeks.
As the news of his accident spread, several prominent figures from the film industry and politics reached out to the actor to convey their best wishes. Govinda’s statement has provided clarity and reassurance to his fans, who were concerned about his well-being.
The actor, who is also a Shiv Sena leader, is expected to take some time off from professional commitments to focus on his recovery. He concluded by saying, “I am grateful to be back home and thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time.”
