Actor Darshan Pleads for Poison from Jail

Kannada film star Darshan, held in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, described his prison conditions as “unbearable” during a court hearing. Appearing via video on Sept 9, he lamented that he hadn’t seen sunlight for 30 days, complained of fungal infections on his hands, and said his clothes had begun to smell. In despair, he dramatically asked the judge, “Provide basic facilities or feed me poison.”

Court Condemns the Appeal

Judges criticized his plea as overly dramatic. The court reaffirmed that all inmates must be treated under standard prison protocols. They emphasized that no one—including a celebrity—is entitled to special privileges or exemptions from jail regulations.

High-Profile Case and Context

Darshan was recently sent back to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison after his bail was revoked by the Supreme Court in August. The court also stressed that no VIP treatment should be granted to him, underscoring the principle that “no one is above the law.” His arrest followed allegations that he and others abducted and tortured a fan, Renukaswamy, who later died. The case continues to grip public attention due to its legal and celebrity elements.
