Abhishek Sharma Fined After KKR-SRH Row

Abhishek Sharma has been fined by the IPL after breaching the league’s Code of Conduct during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. The sanction came a day after the match, with the league confirming that the SRH opener accepted the punishment.

Abhishek Sharma IPL Fine Explained

The IPL said Abhishek Sharma was fined 25 percent of his match fees and also received one demerit point for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the Code of Conduct. The rule covers the use of offensive, obscene or profane language that is audible to spectators or the broadcast audience. Since it was a Level 1 offence, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.

KKR Vs SRH Run-Out Controversy

While the IPL statement did not directly mention the exact incident, the punishment appears to be linked to Abhishek’s visible frustration after his controversial dismissal against KKR. During the innings, he was ruled out after a catch was completed near the boundary, despite questions being raised during the television review over whether the catch had been cleanly taken. The moment sparked debate among viewers and added tension to an already high-scoring contest.

Abhishek Sharma Form Boost For SRH

The controversy came during an otherwise strong outing for Abhishek, who returned to form with a quick 48 off 21 balls. His innings included four boundaries and four sixes and helped Sunrisers Hyderabad post a commanding total of 226. SRH then bowled out Kolkata Knight Riders for 161 in 16 overs to secure a convincing victory. The result gave Hyderabad an important lift early in the IPL 2026 season.
