Abhishek Banerjee to Represent TMC in Operation Sindoor Delegation
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has confirmed that party general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee will represent them in the Centre’s all-party delegation on Operation Sindoor. The announcement comes after days of speculation and sharp political exchange over the selection process for the parliamentary team.
TMC Emphasizes Inclusive Process
Abhishek Banerjee, while confirming his participation, took a firm stance on the need for consensus in such critical decisions. He asserted that “the Centre cannot unilaterally decide who will go from which party,” adding that names should be sought through “inclusive deliberations with all political parties, especially the opposition.”
Banerjee also suggested expanding the delegation beyond MPs to include families of martyrs, survivors of terror attacks, and officers who played key roles in Operation Sindoor. According to him, such individuals are the true representatives of India’s fight against terrorism.
Mamata Banerjee Clarifies TMC Was Not Informed
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee clarified that her party had not opted out of the delegation. Instead, she claimed the Centre never approached TMC to nominate a representative in the first place. “We were not asked. How can we be blamed for opting out when we were never included?” she remarked during a press briefing.
Abhishek Banerjee reiterated this sentiment, stating that while TMC supports the Centre’s counterterrorism objectives, it cannot endorse opaque and exclusionary methods that ignore legitimate opposition voices.
Delegation’s Objective in Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor is India’s high-profile counterterrorism mission, launched in response to the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam. The Centre’s decision to send an all-party delegation to brief international stakeholders and allies is part of a diplomatic strategy to consolidate global support against terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
The inclusion of representatives from across the political spectrum is meant to demonstrate India’s united stance on national security issues. Abhishek Banerjee’s participation signals TMC’s endorsement of that objective—alongside a simultaneous critique of the procedural lapses in how the delegation was formed.
