Abhijeet Dipke Detained Ahead of Delhi Tiranga March

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke was detained by Delhi Police on Friday ahead of a planned Tiranga march at Central Park in Connaught Place, where prohibitory orders were in force.

Dipke detained before Connaught Place march

Police had earlier visited Dipke and served him a notice warning against proceeding with the proposed gathering without permission.

Authorities said Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita was in force in the New Delhi area and that the New Delhi Municipal Council had not granted permission for the march.

Police also told Dipke that carrying the national flag itself was not prohibited, but organising an unauthorised procession or gathering in violation of the restrictions could invite legal action.

Dipke questioned the grounds for his detention and asked police what law he had violated.

Neha Bora also detained

Student leader Neha Bora was separately detained near Jantar Mantar amid heightened security around central Delhi.

Large numbers of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed around Connaught Place ahead of the planned “Lehra Do Tiranga” march, while Central Park was closed to prevent an unauthorised assembly.

The proposed protest followed the detention and subsequent five-day judicial custody of CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka in connection with their entry into Jantar Mantar earlier in the week.

Second detention for Dipke in a week

Friday’s action marked Dipke’s second detention within a week.

He had previously been detained after arriving in Delhi for a protest targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The Election Commission has rejected allegations of manipulation or partisan conduct linked to the revision exercise.
