60 Departmental Cases Pending Against CBI Staff: CVC

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has reported that as of December 31, 2024, there are 60 departmental action cases pending against Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) personnel. Of these, 39 involve Group A officers, while 21 concern Group B and C staff. The report further highlighted that 22 of these cases have remained unresolved for over four years, raising questions about transparency and internal accountability.

Delays in Sanctions for Corruption Prosecutions

The CVC also flagged significant delays in granting prosecution sanctions under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. It noted that 200 cases across 46 organizations are awaiting approval, despite 534 sanction requests being filed. Of these, 106 cases have exceeded the three-month deadline, violating the stipulated timeframe and slowing the pace of corruption trials.

Staffing Vacancies Impacting Efficiency

The CBI continues to face severe manpower shortages. Against a sanctioned strength of 7,300 personnel, only 5,798 staff are currently in service, leaving 1,502 posts vacant. The shortfall includes 887 executive posts, 503 ministerial staff, 57 technical officers, 48 law officers, and 7 canteen staff, which officials say is impacting the agency’s overall efficiency and ability to complete investigations on time.
