5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Manipur
An earthquake struck parts of Manipur early Tuesday morning, with tremors felt in Imphal, Ukhrul and nearby areas. Officials said the quake measured 5.2 in magnitude and was centered in Kamjong district. There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage, though the tremors caused concern across the region.
Manipur Earthquake Felt In Imphal And Ukhrul
The earthquake occurred at around 5:59 am and was felt across several parts of Manipur. Residents in Imphal and Ukhrul reported noticeable shaking, while the impact was also felt in adjoining areas. The epicentre was located in Kamjong district, which lies close to the India-Myanmar border and is part of a seismically active zone.
Earthquake Magnitude Recorded At 5.2 In Kamjong
Official data placed the magnitude of the quake at 5.2, with the tremor occurring at a depth of around 62 km. A quake of this size can cause strong shaking across a wide area, even if it does not immediately lead to visible destruction. The depth and location of the earthquake helped explain why tremors were felt beyond the epicentre zone.
No Immediate Damage Reported After Manipur Quake
Authorities said there were no immediate reports of deaths, injuries or serious structural damage after the tremor. However, monitoring continued through the morning in case of aftershocks or delayed reports from remote areas. Earthquakes are not uncommon in the northeast, and Manipur remains one of the states that frequently experiences seismic activity because of its location in a highly active geological belt.
